Simerians: The Simerians are a cadet branch of the Human race. They are characterized by ochre hair tending toward red, heavy body hair in men, and women of immense and cold beauty. Their eyes are pale blue or emerald green. All of them are physically stronger than a Damaloch or a Troll.
When the single continent Délios was divided, Floëls chose to take control of the icy continent in the North. Many Humans followed her and over time their physiological structure changed, giving rise to a people much taller, much stronger and much sturdier than ordinary Men.
POLITICAL STRUCTURE:
Among the people of the North there are 8 tribes as well as one central tribe. Power is exercised by a woman, unlike among the other species.
Power depends on a matriarchal structure with succession passing to the direct heiress, that is to say the eldest daughter).
During the Third Cycle it is Daskalia who bears the responsibility of ruling over the 9 tribes surrounded by a council of Simerian women.
Daskalia's regency has been effective for 275 years. Power among the inhabitants of the Septrion begins from the 75th year until the 400th year.
The arrangement of the 8 tribes forms an octagon, whereas the capital is detached and situated farther to the East.
The symbol of power for this race lies in a winged helmet placed upon a throne as well as in the wearing of a purple cape embroidered with gold.
LANGUAGE:
The Simerian language is a derivation of the Human language and of the language of the Ancients. It is called: Simerii.
It is used only by the people of the northern continent. It is not very difficult to learn, but its pronunciation remains rather incisive, in the image of this highly physical population.
CUSTOMS AND TRADITIONS:
Marriage: Marriage does not exist among the Simerians; instead they have a conjugal life recognized by the whole community. This matriarchal society established by Floëls is the only one in which it is the women who choose their future husbands.
Men are free to accept or refuse. Women have 25 days to court and convince the one they desire.
Once this time has passed and consent is mutual, they exchange before their respective parents the blood flowing from their index fingers in order to signify that this bond is definitive and can never be called into question.
Birth: Birth among the Simerians is an occasion for the close family to hold a great celebration around a huge bonfire.
Special dishes are prepared and shared.
After 5 days the baby is presented to relatives and the initiatory act of snow is performed: the child is rolled in the snow for one minute so that it may, for all its life, absorb the land from which it comes and the legendary physical strength of its people. No plant grows in the Septrion.
Death: When a Simerian feels death approaching, out of dignity and respect for the community he goes several days' walk away toward one of the cemeteries of the community. There he digs his own grave and once finished lies down in the earth and waits for the cold and death to come take him. Before departing, the Simerian indicates the place of his burial to only one of his relatives.
That relative will then go and finish the work by burning the corpse and then filling in the grave.
